When Is the Best Time of Year to Buy New Cabinets?

When you think of remodeling your home, you probably imagine doing so in the spring. This is the time of year that everything’s coming to life and you get to enjoy the weather after being cooped up for months. It’s also the time you’re already thinking about cleaning and decluttering every nook and cranny in your home.

It’s no wonder that so many people start remodeling at this time of year. However, you’re probably not doing yourself – or your budget – any favors in making this move.

The law of supply and demand dictates that when demand is high, supplies cost more. As nearly everyone is remodeling and improving their homes in the spring and summer, you’re likely to pay a premium for your new cabinets. So, when is the best time to buy them? This guide will walk you through the answer below.

Shop When It’s Cold

Going back to supply and demand, how many homeowners do you think are purchasing remodeling materials in the winter? Very few. Most people aren’t interested in such activities when it’s cold outside,

There’s another factor to consider, though. Wintertime is when everyone is Christmas shopping. Their money is going towards purchasing Christmas gifts, Christmas trees, decorations, plane tickets, holiday meal items, and similar things.

All of this means that cabinet suppliers and other companies that provide remodeling goods aren’t meeting their sales goals. In order to keep the bills and employees paid, they’ll typically drop their prices – sometimes by as much as half of their regular price to attract buyers. Sometimes, these prices will begin to drop in the late fall. Shopping at this time of year can save you a great deal of cash.

What About Installation?

If you choose, you can always buy your new cabinets in the winter and wait until spring to install them. However, you can usually save even more money by having your cabinet installation taken care of in the winter, too.

Just like suppliers, contractors typically have a dip in business in the colder months. They’ll often drop their prices, as well, in order to drum up business and pay their own bills. If you wait until the springtime, demand will be high again, and you’ll be hard-pressed to find a discounted rate.

Installing new cabinets can be an expensive but worthwhile process. However, you can cut your costs and stick with your budget more easily by waiting until demand is low in the winter months.
