Home Repairs To Help You Weather Any Storm

0

Homes are built to withstand rough weather, but a few repairs can help them get through more smoothly. Make sure you check these repairs off your list before storm season hits this year.

Schedule a Roof Inspection

You should inspect your roof at least once every year. Although some problems can be spotted by the average homeowner, others require a trained eye. Professional roof contractors know early signs of trouble that should be addressed. Following the recommendation offered on your inspection can help you avoid emergency Roof Repair Services Huntersville NC after a storm.

Keep Gutters Clean

Gutters work around the clock to channel water off the roof and away from the foundation. Several problems can emerge when they are clogged.

First, there is a risk of water, snow or ice backing up under your roofing material which can cause damage to the sheathing and lead to expensive repairs. Clogged gutters also allow water to overflow and pool along the foundation, leading to a wet basement or crawlspace. Make time once or twice a year to clean them out to avoid these issues.

Install a Sump Pump

Unfortunately, there are some homes where water enters basements or crawlspaces. This is especially common after extreme weather. If you’ve noticed water in one of these places before, now is a good time to look into installing a sump pump. When installed properly, water will flow toward the pump and get removed through pipes.

Trim Overhanging Tree Limbs

Another common problem that rears its ugly head during storms is found in tree limbs that overhang houses and outbuildings. These can break and land on the roof, causing damage. Larger limbs can easily cause structural damage that lets rain or ice into your home. Keep limbs trimmed to six feet or more from the roofline to avoid this problem.

Keeping the roof inspected and clear of limbs, cleaning your gutters and installing a sump pump are just a few of the home repairs that can help your home weather extreme weather.
